Duro Olowu: Seeing Chicago

A book/exhibition where style, culture, art, and music, became a means to navigate the question of identity raised by people in flux.

In early 2020, Duro Olowu, a Nigerian-born British fashion designer, curated his second museum exhibition, “Duro Olowu: Seeing Chicago” at The Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago. It features his selections of over 380 artworks from that museum’s collection, as well as other institutions and private collections in Chicago.

The book’s layout immediately seemed light and reckless, the kind of book you would like to do with your photos, only to see them tasteless and bland page after page.

It is a book of street photography, where history is Chicago. You can’t consider an Instagram book where street photos are put up just for the fun of it. But immediately, the feeling that there is more.
